After paying over 7K in fees and awaiting trial, this is what she wrote me! "I have been pondering your case long and hard. I appreciate your position, but I cannot continue to bill on a case on which we are not getting paid. I had hoped that you would be able to make some small, good-faith paymen...ts to keep the partners happy (you told me on several occasions that you would) - but we haven't received anything at all in a long time. I would be happy to sit down with you to walk you through the process of going to the hearing without an attorney. There is also plenty of time for you to find a different attorney if you'd prefer. However, I just can't justify prepping and appearing in court with a nearly $5,000 balance owing. Going to court would guarantee at least another $1,000 or more added to your bill. Even if we win (which I think is likely, but never guaranteed), there are no assurances that the house will sell or that there will be equity." In the meantime, I will be preparing a withdrawal to let the court know the status. The letter was dated Jan 12th and court was on Feb 3rd. How does that leave enough time to find another lawyer and be prepared for trial? My Husbands lawyer was one step ahead of her all the way, knowing the excessive fees she charges, all they had to do was wait her out as I was going broke. As soon as I had new (reasonably priced) counsel, they settled! That's when I found out the firm has a paid chef and are the most expensive lawyers in town! I paid her until I was unable and then, right before court, she withdrew from my case. But the damage was done and she is now taking me to court for the remaining balance as well as turning it over to collections. She knows the situation I am in and the expense the divorce has cost me. My ex-husband spent one quarter of what I did on his lawyer. Avoid her at all costs.
