Mediation offers great flexibility to parties to craft their own solution to their dispute. You make the decisions, not some third party. This is one of the benefits of mediation over filing a lawsuit. When you file suit in a court the decision ends up being driven by court rules and, ultimately, by the judge or jury. If you and the other person you are in disagreement with can agree to some basic ground rules of civility, you may be able to solve your own problems with the help of a mediator.
