Responsive Divorce Lawyer

I met Chris Eggert through a referral from my EAP, while I was still reeling from the shock that divorce had been introduced into my life. He answered his own telephone and asked about my wellbeing first before proceeding onto business. He told me up-front that there would be more expensive lawyers w...ho couldn't guarantee a different outcome, but that he would bring value in addition to his expertise. He said he would be candid in his interpretations of the issues and the anticipated legal response to each argument, even when those were difficult for me to hear. He told me he would organize all of the information I sent him and only spend time/money reviewing documents to the extent that they became pertinent. He kept his word on those components across-the-board. He encouraged me to remain reasonable without giving into irrational demands or making emotional reactions that might have sabotaged my own case. I know I benefited from Chris Eggert’s representation, but more importantly, so did my children in the settlement that we reached with my coparent.

First-class Family Law Attorney

My divorce was complicated, going back to 2005 and involving attorneys in 3 states. I've been working with Mr. Eggert for five years now and can say with 100% certainty that if you are able to enlist him to advise and represent you, and you follow his advice, then your life (and your kids) is going t...o improve. Chris approaches things differently than i would - always for the better! He understands the dynamics of family law like a layman cannot, so I learned to simply follow his every bit of advice. First class individual!! Thank you Chris.

Child Custody Matter

My daughter was going through a traumatic split up with the father of her children. I contacted Chris' office blindly, not living in the state my daughter does, nor knowing anyone who practices in her state. We were looking for full custody and the ability for them to relocate to my daughter's home... state, which we understood going in that the likelihood of them relocating was very slim. Although it was a long and drawn out process, as we all know child custody matters can be, I am so pleased to say we finally received a resolution that was the best possible outcome possible. I will forever be grateful to Chris and his paralegal for not giving up and continuing to fight for us. My grandchildren and daughter now will have opportunities that never would have been afforded to them had they stayed where they were. I highly recommend them.

Divorce Case

I was not at all impressed with Mr. Eggert and his associates. My ex walked away with almost everything. Almost everything I was told by Mr. Eggert turned out to be false. Numerous mistakes on the paperwork. The legal costs were triple what I was quoted and the payout to my ex was unbelievable. He ga...ve in to every demand of my spouses attorney. I basically had no defense at all. His associate attorney did 80% of the work, which was never mentioned in the initial consultation. Everytime they met to discuss my case, I was charged by both attorneys. This mistake will cost me for the rest of my life.

Contested divorce cases usually take six months to a year; it is difficult to imagine that these complaints could not have been brought to my attention during that entire time or if you were so unhappy with the services you were receiving that you would not have hired a different firm. I suspect a troll. Our usual practice is to assign an attorney at the time we are retained. Other attorneys in the office can and do assist, but the assigned attorney typically does the vast majority of the work on a file. All of our work, who did it and how much it costs, is disclosed on the monthly invoice. We do not give quotes on fees in contested divorces. We will quote a retainer, and it is always explained that a retainer is intended to secure payment of our fees and is not an estimate of how much a contested case will cost. Errors do happen on paperwork from time to time, usually inconsequential typos. I'm human. But errors get found and fixed. Oregon is a marital property state, so everything marital is usually divided in half between the parties. Virtually no one "walks away with almost everything" in a divorce. If you really were a client of mine, please let me know privately who you were so I can review my file and ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else. Otherwise, I hope anyone reading this will understand that anonymity allows unrealistic and unfounded attacks like this.

Worst Ever

Hired this attorney for my divorce. He gave everything to my ex: did not look into splitting retirement, splitting the cost of the parent evaluater, triple mailed the same information and charged me for it. The list of autrosities from this attorney is astrinomical and would NEVER recommend him. H...eard from others that had hired him and other attorney's that he is biased against women and doesn't not represent them-I am proof of that. He just wanted the money without doing his job.

I do my best for every client. Sometimes the client doesn't get their ideal outcome, and this happens for a variety of reasons. Every case is different, and the outcome is often dependent upon the choices the client makes and the judge's view of the evidence. If you truly feel you have been wronged, I invite you to contact me offline and directly. There are likely better ways to address your concerns than an anonymous review.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
