Highly recommended - excellent experience

Cynthia had acted as my corporate attorney for several years, when in 2011 my wife and I ran into a problem with a contractor on an extensive house remodel. I initially called Cynthia to ask her assistance in terminating our contract with the contractor. As we dug into the situation, it became cl...ear the issues my wife and I had perceived extended far beyond that which would be solved by a simple contract termination. Working with Cynthia was easy and enjoyable considering the circumstances. We were quickly able to review our contract, timeline, and all written and verbal correspondence we had had with our contractor. In parallel, Cynthia quickly assembled a team of construction professionals to review remodel progress-to-date and to cross reference progress with time and materials billed. The result of the initial analysis confirmed significant issues related to both quality of construction and contract / construction law. It became clear the end-result of non-action would be bankruptcy for my wife and I and the loss of our home. Cynthia took immediate action by filing a lawsuit against our contractor and moving us through the process of discovery, depositions, and eventually to mediation. Cynthia was a pleasure to work with through the entire process. She was very empathetic and caring toward my wife and I considering the situation we were in with our two very young boys (a three year old and a new-born at the time). Throughout the process, Cynthia presented herself not only as our attorney, but also very much as a team-member, willingly accepting and enlisting my help in analysis of discovery material and in preparation for depositions and mediation. I had no previous experience with civil law, yet I felt engaged, prepared, and very aware of the legal process. In the end, I felt like I was able to significantly contribute to a successful outcome. The end result was that my wife and I were made entirely whole through the process. My family moved into a newly remodeled home within blocks of the house which was the subject of our lawsuit. Timing of the outcome could not have been more perfect as the new home we purchased was under construction when we went into escrow, allowing my wife the opportunity to engage in some of the design and selection of finishes. From my perspective, the civil system worked exactly as designed, and Cynthia made it very easy to understand and to navigate. Overall, I know Cynthia to be thorough, professional, trustworthy, responsive and tenacious; all the qualities you would want in an attorney. Her local knowledge and experience were invaluable in our case. Her communication with us and the team she assembled was excellent. She worked hard and provided professional yet personalized service that yielded incredible results. I highly recommend her.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I practice exclusively in the area of immigration law, and when my clients need assistance with a family law matter I do not hesitate to refer them to Cynthia. From what I have seen she works diligently to help her clients get the best results and for a reasonable fee. I have seen other lawyers waste client's money by creating conflict with the opposing side and therefore generate more work for themselves. My experience with Cynthia is that she is pragmatic and works for results and not to generate more fees for herself. I know my clients appreciate her straightforward approach. I highly recommend Cynthia."

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2004.

Suspension issued in HI, 2004

updated on 07/18/2016

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Cynthia’s comment:

“The incident happened in 2000, not 2003. This was reciprocal to the Oregon suspension. It was not another event, I was suspended in Hawaii because I was suspended in Oregon.”

Suspension - Disciplinary issued in OR, 2003

updated on 07/18/2016

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Cynthia’s comment:

“The incident happened in 2000, not 2004. It was my first case I litigated and I made a mistake. No client or person was harmed or disadvantaged because of this. I stipulated because my attorney at the time told me that because I was a woman and in my own firm that the Bar would not be lenient.”
