My practice focuses on resolving business disputes in and out of court. I represent individuals and companies on a variety of claims, including contract disputes, business owner disputes, and business torts. I have helped Tonkon clients win on motions to dismiss, on summary judgment, and at trial, in addition to negotiating numerous favorable settlements. Representative matters include the following:
 

• Shareholder dispute – After a 50% owner of a start-up company caught her co-owner embezzling, I brought claims for breach of fiduciary duty and conversion. We obtained a judgment that removed the defendant from the board and required him to relinquish his company shares.  
• Breach of contract – Obtained summary judgment in favor of an investor and lender against a defendant who had misused funds in violation of the parties' agreement.  
• Creditor priority – When an out-of-state bank sued 45 Oregon farmers asserting a security interest in crops the farmers still hadn't been paid for growing, attempting to take possession of the crops, I worked with other Tonkon trial lawyers to defeat most of the bank's case on summary judgment and then obtain a verdict at trial finding that the bank had no security interest at all.  
• Breach of contract – When a Fortune 500 company refused to pay a local software provider, i negotiated a settlement for the full amount of damages requested.  
• Shareholder dispute – After long-time friends and business partners had a falling out, the minority owner sued our client for breach of fiduciary duty. I worked on this case which resolved favorably for the client. The settlement resulted in a buy-out arrangement, keeping our client's family business intact.
• Civil rights – Helped obtain trial judgment and award on behalf of pro bono client, an inmate, based on state's infringement of his First Amendment rights.  
• Breach of Contract – Negotiated settlement for full damages requested, plus attorney fees, for local security patrol services provider.

I was honored to be named an Oregon "Rising Star" in business litigation by Super Lawyers in 2016.  In addition to my litigation work, I represent investors and other individuals and companies doing business in the cannabis industry, and advise clients on Oregon's cannabis laws and regulations. I am co-chair of Tonkon Torp's cannabis industry practice group.
