Biography
Erik Nackerud is an IP attorney and a registered patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Erik provides his clients with value through his unique integrated perspective by drawing on both his practical engineering experience and legal roles in both small and large corporations.
Erik's expertise includes a variety of high-tech fields including laser, eo-optics, camera, telescope, spectroscopy (life sciences and semiconductor), machine vision, thin film, optical metrology, and general optic fields. While Erik is often sought after for his technical expertise in the optical sciences, working in multi-discipline R&D engineering and manufacturing groups has led to proficiency to numerous technical disciplines including mechanical and electrical arts.
As general counsel at a rapidly growing small R&D business (now client), Erik managed the company's patent portfolio and expanded the portfolio from less than 8 patents to a 40+ portfolio that is continually growing. As an engineer with 10+ years experience, Erik has worked through small and large New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and has experience identifying patentable improvements in tiered R&D phases from both an engineers and legal advocates perspective. As an inventor, Erik has first-hand experience working with both internal and outside patent counsel and understands the value of clear and open lines communication during drafting and throughout prosecution.
Erik received his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Lewis and Clark Law School and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in optical engineering at University of California, Davis. Erik is registered to practice before the USPTO (License No. 73372) and licensed to practice law in Oregon under OSB# 143923.
