"PHILOSOPHY" OF THE FIRM:
I have not renewed my license as an attorney, but I still provide consulting to NW Property Law, the law firm that bought my practice. "Preventive Law" is practiced. Clients are strongly encouraged to consult long before disputes develop. The recommended approach is to attempt to spot and discuss as many potential problems as reasonably possible prior to their eruption into heated disputes. Perhaps they can be prevented altogether or at least the risks involved can be better understood.
If it is too late for the "legal audit" route, clients are still advised of the various realistic alternatives to accomplish a resolution. And, when possible a "best estimate" will be given as to the respective non-monetary as well as monetary costs which are likely to occur.
GEOGRAPHICAL CONCENTRATION FOR THE FIRM:
The firm primarily handles matters involving property and businesses located within the Oregon Coastal Counties. But, it is also willing, especially for matters that do not require a court appearance, to consider document preparation, negotiations and review anywhere in Oregon or Colorado. Mr. Hillestad is licensed for and practices in both states.
Fortunately, since most of what the firm does for clients such as advice and document preparation can be accomplished almost anywhere there is phone, fax, delivery or e-mail service, it does not matter much where either the clients or Mr. Hillestad happen to be physically located at the moment.
EXPERIENCE:
Over three decades of experience in his legal specialities combined with a sideline of developing and operating historic properties both as owner and real estate broker. It tempers the theoretical legal education with practical business sense.

Charles Hillestad Got the Results We Hoped For
Mr. Hillestad remained calm, positive, focused and determined in obtaining the desired result for us. He listened to our concerns and rewrote the property boundary agreement between us and a neighbor to our satisfaction, getting the other party to finally sign.
"I worked for Charles Hillestad between 1980-82, then we remained friends and professional collegues ever since. We have referred matters back and forth to each other. I know Charles to be a careful and thoughtful attorney. He "thinks of everything." His documents are drafted with precision and clarity, without mistakes. He possesses a keen intellect and good sense of humor."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. I have worked with Chuck on many matters and have always found him to be straight forward, knowledgeable, honest and dedicated to his client's success."
