Joshua K Marquis

I have been the lected District Attorney in Astoria/Clatsop County since 1994 when I was appointed by then-Governor Barnara Roberts. I was then elected in 1994 and re-elected in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

In 2001 I served as President of the Oregon District Attorneys Association, from 2009-2013 I was a member of the American Bar Association's Criminal Law Leadership Council, serving as vice-chair in 2013.

From 200-2009 I was appointed by then-Gov. Kulongoski as a member of the Oregon Criminal Justice Commisssion.

Since 1997 I have been on the Board of Directors of the National District Attorneys Association, serving as Vice President and in 2015-16 am on the governing Executive Committee for my fifth (non-consecutive) year.

I speak frequently at the request of groups of state prosecutors and law schools across America and oversaes. I've travelled by invitation to the European Parliment and to the People's Republic of China and Ihave testified four times before the United State House and Senate Judiciary Committees.

In 2005 my work was cited several times in the concurring opinion in the US Supreme Court case of KANSAS vs. MARSH, in 2011 I debated Barry Scheck of the Innocence Project at the NEW YORKER Festival and I have recived awards in 1996 and 2014 from the Animal Legal Defense Fund for my work on animal cruelty laws and in 2006 was given the William Schaefer Award by the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation.

I do not practice privately, so all citizens are my "clients" in general, but only as a prosecutor. I am involved as a jazz programmer at radio station KMUN-FM, am a double Paul Harris Fellow at the Astoria Rotary Club, and have acted for 22 seasons in the Astor Street Opry's Company's play "Shanghaied in Astoria."

I am blessed with a fantastic staff of six deputy DA's and 10 support staff in the Clatsop DA's Office.
