"Jack" told me my divorce would only take a few months. Well, over a year and thousands of dollars later, it still isn't finished.
I did everything he told me to do: I kept a timeline of abuse from my husband, got him forms and bank statements when he asked for them...I did whatever he told me. I... have a police report on my husband, receipts from motels I had to stay in when it wasn't safe for me to stay in my house, pictures of how my husband destroyed my closet door to get into my things...I had to call the police 3 different times because my husband kept threatening and attacking me yet NONE of this was addressed in court. It was completely dismissed. My husband even cut off my access to any money that was OURS. I didn't have any financial means. When I was finally "allowed" to move out, I had to take out a balance transfer on my credit card to support myself because I had nothing. How is this ok? Jack didn't do anything to help me gain access to what was also my money.
So now, even though my husband was abusive, damaged my things, among other illegal actions he committed, I am now a single mom on welfare, I am living on state funding for food. My husband makes significantly more money than I do .Jack left me with nothing but an $11,000 bill. He didn't do one thing for me I couldn't have done if I had just filed the divorce myself. $11,000 is apparently to cover emailing me and talking to me on the phone over the course of over a year.
I would also like to mention he constantly made comments about my appearance, called me "a blonde" when I'm actually a brunette, yelled at me, and made comments about my sex life. I believe this attorney took advantage of me. Who works with a woman of domestic violence and leaves them with nothing? My husband now has the house and everything else. We even have joint custody even though he had done all kinds of abusive things that I documented, and again, I have a police report on him.
I don't believe this is ethical. I believe he led me on and planned to just establish a settlement and be done with me.
I recently received his latest bill. Now I don't see how I'll pay it as I've been left with nothing and can't pay my bills. I finally, after a year of dealing with him bullying me and insulting me, sent him an email telling him how upsetting I found this. He has now dropped me, no questions asked, and my final court date hasn't taken place yet. Now I have to find someone to help me finish.
I do not recommend this attorney. I think he has an agenda of self-interest. He did not listen to my concerns. He did things however he wanted simply to push things through.
