Eric Kaufman

Retained Mr. Kaufman for a family law case. Just prior to the final hearing he disappeared with no notice and no communication to anyone. He was supposed to write the judgement for the Judge's approval and did not so my opponents lawyer drafted it instead, in their favor and I never got to even see... it before the Judge signed it. Had to retain another lawyer to finish the case and to sue the Oregon Bar for damages and to get my documents and files back.

After taking our case and barely walking us through the court process for which the decision was made to settle out of court, but had not yet determined the terms of the settlement, Mr. Kaugman disapeared. We heard nothing from him, or his office, after repeated attempts finally was able to catch a r...eceptionist in the office who gave an 800 number for someone else where we've had to leave a message and have not yet heard back. It has been 3+ months of absolutely no updates. We've been informed that the other party is telling people this has all concluded and describes the terms of the settlement, now the concern is that it was sent to Mr. Kaufman with the usual terminology that objections be filed within 7days and he did not respond or allow us the opportunity to respond we are out of luck. This is just wrong. There are laws/rules about contacting clients and courts when attorneys leave. We heard nothing at all!
