Your state bar association may have a modest means program for folks with limited income. I suggest you contact them.
Will filing for VAWA, affect my husband's record in any way? Does Immigration investigate these cases thoroughly?

The Deferred Action that will go into effect on Aug. 15, 2012, could help someone in your situation, also. Talk to your lawyer!

I would first find out why it was returned by the CIS. Perhaps, the wrong fee or no fee was submitted. Once you find out why contact your attorney...
