Poor Communication and Lack of Transparency

I hired Alexander Daniloff to represent me in my U.S. asylum case. Unfortunately, I was dissatisfied with his services and ultimately decided to terminate our professional relationship and hire another attorney. Throughout his representation, I repeatedly had to contact him myself to find out what w...as happening with my case. He did not notify me about changes to my court hearing dates, and I did not receive clear guidance on how to strengthen my case. After terminating his services, I requested an itemized accounting and a refund of any unused portion of my $5000 payment. Only afterward did I receive an invoice totaling approximately $10240. I had not previously been informed that the charges exceeded my payment. A significant portion of the charges involved investigations and verification of my evidence, but I was not provided with documented findings during his representation. The invoice included $1,395 for 4.65 hours of reported communications with representatives of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (ACF/FBK). When I contacted ACF independently, its representatives could not locate emails from the attorney's address I provided. They described such extensive contact with three employees as highly unlikely, while acknowledging that communication through other means was theoretically possible. ACF offered to clarify the matter through a three-way email exchange with Mr. Daniloff.I forwarded this offer to him, but he did not participate in the proposed exchange. Only after our professional relationship had ended did I learn of his detailed negative assessments of my evidence through his written response to my complaint with the Oregon State Bar. I terminated his services because of my loss of trust, inadequate communication, and concerns about billing transparency. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend Alexander Daniloff. I encourage prospective clients to request written case updates, detailed invoices, and documentation of work performed.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
