Very good lawyer, really nice guy.

Helped me with my case against the police. Before the lawsuit was filed, Rich found out a lot of damaging stuff about the police officer that attacked me. Rich kept me informed throughout the case, and he made sure I understood what was going on. He arranged for me to see a top-notch specialist to... evaluate my injuries. My only complaint is that Rich can sometimes be hard to reach in person, so I would leave him messages, but he always got back to me. When it came time to settle, he did not pressure me at all. He respected that my reasons for wanting to settle a bit early had to do with family issues. He also made sure I got all of my settlement money very quickly. Rich was really helpful and he also helped me with some legal issues that had nothing to do with my lawsuit- and he did it for free. Having gone through a divorce, I learned to hate lawyers. But Rich proved that not all lawyers are only interested in money- he genuinely cared about me and my family.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2015.

Discipline with Actual Suspension issued in CA, 2015

updated on 01/20/2016

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Richard’s comment:

“Moved overseas in 2012. Acceptance of the stipulation to settle the State Bar case rather than incur substantial expense to return to California to defend myself was one of the most difficult decisions of my life. I had already changed my status to Inactive in California in 2/2014, and I have had no discipline in any other jurisdiction. As a former law professor and educator for over 10 years, I have always worked hard to contribute to my community. References available upon request.”

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline
This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2015
