Ian Barnes Bertschausen

Ian Bertschausen, Esq. is the founder of Donner Summit Law Firm, PC, an estate planning and probate practice based in Truckee, California, serving Truckee, Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Reno, Northern California, and Northern Nevada. He started the firm because he believes estate planning should feel like a conversation, not a transaction. He takes that responsibility seriously, and explains every document in plain language so clients actually understand what they're signing, not just where to initial.

Ian's work covers the full range of estate planning, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives, along with trust and probate administration and estate litigation when disputes arise. He is licensed in California and Nevada, which lets him help clients whose lives span more than one state, a situation that is common in the Lake Tahoe area.

When Ian isn't in the office, he's likely on a mountain trail, cross-country or downhill skiing, or out on the water paddleboarding, with a home-cooked meal or a St. Louis Cardinals game usually not far behind. He and his wife Kari share their home in Truckee with Kiwi, their spirited dog.
