I was arrested in Sausalito CA for possession of 167 pounds of cannabis and 3 ½ grams of ecstasy. I thought my life was over and I was preparing myself for jail. Along with human rights abuses against immigrants of color and predatory lending, I fel...t compelled to apply free speech rights to the democratic process and this expression involved being arrested for refusing to leave a Wells Fargo bank while sharing facts with clientele about abuses in ICE centers and how Wells Fargo is financially complicit. Even if you can't empathize with my particular situation, I can say that for Omar to lend his extremely professional legal council and compassionate navigation of the criminal justice process to me in a time of need was beyond valuable. In this time, Omar displayed to me an incredible amount of dedication, approachability, and trustworthiness that left me feeling secure that, with many potential criminal charges hanging over my head, I would be able to make WITH him the choices I needed to in order for my First Amendment rights to be applied AND for me to continue with my life as uninterrupted as possible. In the end, I was able to simply do work benefiting a community organization I had already wanted to work with before, and Wells Fargo bank withdrew funding to ICE detention centers!
