Biography
I've been on the water for 50 years, on sailboats, oilfield supply boats, and bluewater freighters. I'm an Unlimited Master Mariner and Commercial/MEL/CFI airplane pilot. I have 20 years of experience as a marine surveyor and have been admitted to federal courts as a maritime expert. I'm a correspondent for WorkBoat Magazine and the author of several maritime-related books, including the 2010 memoir Seized, about freeing ships from fraudulent seizure. It was called "A great story" by the Washington Post and "Heart-stopping" by Publishers Weekly. I've appeared on Fox News, BBC, NPR, The Learning Channel, and many other media outlets. The American Heroes Channel featured me in "Love Wolves," an August, 2014 episode in its Hardcore Heroes series. My law clients have included shipowners, wharfingers, charterers, bunkerers, and others in the maritime industry.
