N/AOUTCOME: Murder charges dismissed - Resolved to Voluntary Manslaughter
In exchange for a waiver of the preliminary hearing, a life sentence was taken off the table. Ultimately, we pled open to the court to Voluntary Manslaughter. Client's maximum exposure was almost 14 ... years. We presented a written sentencing memorandum, and many many letters in support of my client. My client spoke eloquently, and from his heart. The judge handed down a sentence of 8 years. I would say that is a win, but given the tragic circumstances of this case, I have to say no one really won. But this outcome will give my client a second chance.
