TERRIBLE LAWYER

She gives you no attention, no priority, acts like she's way too busy for you, then quits after taking your money.

Dear Lou, I figured out why you are not in our client database. It is because I never actually completed any project for you. You hired me on UpCounsel on 6/22/17 for a flat-fee project covering preparation and filing of a provisional patent application. I sent you an email acknowledgment on 6/22/17 and promised to send you the invention disclosure form to get the process moving. I kept my promise and did send you the form on 6/22/17, within minutes of your hiring me. I gave you a timeline of 6/27/17 for my review of your materials. However, before that timeline passed, you sent me this email at 11.59am PDT on 6/27/17. "You mentioned you will have reviewed my email and materials by today and will let me know if you have further questions. Since I have not heard from you, is it it safe today you have reviewed everything and fully understanding everything, and will be sending me the first draft in 2-3 weeks? Please understand that this project is a very near to my heart passion project. I want everyone involved with this to be 110% focused, committed, passionate, and prioritizing of it. Reliable, consistent communication is also crucial to this projects success. Is this agreeable? Thanks! I responded promptly with the following message in less than an hour at 12.44pm PDT on 6/27/17. "Dear Lou, Thanks for the follow up. No questions at this point. Will start drafting and let you know if we need any other info along the way. Otherwise, please expect the first draft in 2-3 weeks. Kanika Sent from my iPhone Sent via email • 6/27/17 at 12:44 PM PDT" However, you were not satisfied. That same afternoon, you started bombarding me with texts, phone calls, emails and messages on the UpCounsel asking me what the first draft was. You also asked me if I had reviewed some specific prior art that you mentioned to me for the first time. In addition, you wanted to know other intricacies about this prior art, that was completely outside the scope of our engagement. To make matters worse, you were sending messages using all forms of communication such as the UpCounsel platform, email, phone and text messages and expecting a response from me within minutes. Your continuous messaging and your unrealistic expectations of what the project entailed made me rethink our engagement and I sent you the following message on 6/27/17 at 4.01pm. Hi Lou, Thanks for your emails, texts, and UpCounsel messages. Unfortunately, I will not be able to work on this project going forward. It will be best for you to work with another Patent Attorney who can respond to all your messages in a timely manner. I will inform UpCounsel to process your refund. Thanks Kanika You acknowledged my email within two minutes at 4.03pm which shows how wedded you were to your messaging systems. Bottomline is that I gauged within a few days that our attorney-client relationship was not going to work out and gave you a prompt refund of 100% of the upfront fees that you had paid. I did not even bother charging for the umpteen free consultations you had before and during that short engagement period because at some point, I had to cut my losses and move on. Thanks Kanika

Patent lawyer

Kanika was hired through upcousel, even though we never had a chance to kick off the process, she was extremely helpful! Once we decided to not proceed, she was very professional and refunded the full amount without any stress.

Mobile App Provisional Patent Filing

We needed help filing our first company patent, and none of the inventors had experience with patents before. Kanika and her team were excellent: she guided us through our basic and more complicated questions, and put together a great application, incorporating our feedback along the way. We were und...er some time pressure, and Kanika made sure to speed us through to the finish line. I would highly recommend working with Kanika and her team.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
