Does not Respond

If you are getting this attorney through the Contra Costa County Bar Association, and are getting this attorney on a cheaper retainer, be aware. At first Ms. Owens was helpful and although, did not give much advise, did say she could help me with my request. As my case progressed, however, she did no...t respond to any of my messages, I had to remind her of my court date, and she did not do half the things she said she would do. During my hearing, I had to remind Ms. Owens of specific details pertinent to my case. If I did not have as much evidence as I had, I doubt the hearing would have gone in my favor. I felt as though Ms. Owens did the absolute bare minimum to help with my case. Needless to say, I still have yet to get the remainder of my retainer and get a response from her. There has been no review of billing for hours spent, and she still has my journal which was used for evidence that she has not returned. All my emails, texts, and voicemails have been very professional and have been prefaced with "I understand you are busy..."

I am sorry you feel this way, however, publishing a public post stating that we did not return your documents minutes after the request for the documents was made, is misleading. As is failing to include that a favorable outcome was obtained on your behalf. Further, the client is normally the one with the evidence; I am not certain how I could possibly be expected to obtain evidence prior to meeting a client. The court is focused on the child’s best interest based on facts and standards under the Family Code. Your belief that you “won your case” with a journal is understandable, as you’re not a legal expert, but it is not factual. No, you did not “remind me” of your hearing date; I had all hearing information in my possession. Clients are not present for the hours and hours we spend on their matter, and rarely understand the process, which is why attorneys are retained. Assuming the “bare minimum” was done to help your case is a baseless allegation; again, you received a favorable outcome, and not based on the evidence you provided. Communications are always answered; our inability to provide instant responses to multiple messages and emails a day is not “unprofessional.” Locating every site to defame us by publishing false information however, is. This review is false and clearly posted for malicious purposes.

Worst experience with Loriann Owens

If I could give zero stars I would, because we had absolutely the worst experience with Ms. Owens. What should have been a very easy case for us to recover our damages turned into a long dragged out nightmare due to her lack of communication with us or opposing counsel, she cancelled depositions at t...he last minute after we had arranged to take time off from work, failed to inform of us important court dates, and even failed to appear at a court date where we were left to address the judge by ourselves. I believe we would have been much better off representing ourselves in small claims court.

Edited update: I did not leave you to fend for yourselves in court, you agreed to a settlement, refused to sign, wasted the court's time for refusing to sign and allowing me to dismiss, and then hired a new attorney who claimed to represent you. You then contacted my insurance company attempting to force them to accept your own claim. Your attorney demanded I offer you "a 5 figure" number, which made for a good laugh, only to come back later with a nominal request, despite my adamant refusal to subject myself to a shakedown. I am sorry you feel this way. Communication is a top priority at our firm, and we are unaware of any failure to adequately communicate with our clients. Please note, an outcome with which a client is not happy is not equivalent to poor performance, as each matter is unique and there are no guaranteed final outcomes in the litigation process. While lay persons may feel a case is “very easy”, they often lack the legal expertise and experience to make such a determination, which is often why they seek representation. While I cannot speak to your individual experience with our firm, we do appreciate your feedback as we strive to meet the needs of every client.

Very dissatisfied

Please be aware that this attorney has very bad communication and most likely is over worked. I hired her and she over promised everything and in the end she did nothing for me. She never filed anything like she said she did. I checked with the courthouse everyday to make sure. I am unable to get a...ny proof of my file from her or even an invoice. In order for me to get any of my money back I am having to take her to small claims. This is so sad because now my daughter is stuck in her current situation for longer. Please do your research before hiring this attorney. And if your referred by a certain legal company which you pay for monthly like I was be even more careful its not worth the discount. Cannot even get her to email me anymore. She promised me an invoice and my file within 7 day on March 7th 2023 IT IS NOW the 15th of march 8 days later and no email's no answered phone calls!!! NOTHING!! I was a little worried when I read her reviews about how someone paid her and she just disappeared. I should've believed it. Please please please be careful with who you choose as an attorney.

Again, an ex parte application was submitted, and you decided to withdraw it less than 48 hours later. Your documents were sent several weeks ago, and we have not heard from you again. As such, it appeared as though you received your file and closing documents as you did not state otherwise. Further, we responded to every communication from you, and on several occasions' multiple times per day, and you know this. This review was submitted one day after your demands, which were made after the work was already completed. Your situation was not caused by any failure to act on my end, as it predated your contact with my office. It is unfortunate that you chose to pull the ripcord mid-submission as I was ready, able and willing to see your matter through. You did not "take" me to small claims court, as this is the first, I have heard from you for quite some time. If you recall, you apologized for your relentless calls and messages at one point, claiming that you had recently been "scammed," and were a little paranoid from that experience. Lastly, your insinuation that I somehow took advantage of you is incredibly unfair, Michelle, as I did right by you; I viewed you as a parent with a child in need, and not based on an ability or inability to pay my fee first. I wish you the very best.
