Yi Sun Wilkinson

Yi Wilkinson is an associate at Shay Glenn LLP, where she focuses on patent drafting and prosecution, strategic patent counseling and IP due diligence investigations. Yi has relevant experience in patent prosecution in many diverse technologies including optics, medical devices, electronics, MEMS and nanotechnology, biochemistry and green technologies.

Prior to joining Shay Glenn, Yi was a patent agent at Stevens Law Group LLP and then at a medical device company in San Jose. Yi was also a summer associate at Knobbe Martens Olsen & Bear LLP. Before entering the legal profession, Yi worked as an optical engineer for KLA-Tencor, Inc., Applied Biosystems, Inc. and New Focus, Inc. in the fields of optics, medical devices and semiconductor metrology equipment. She was also a research staff member at the Department of Biomedical Engineering in Texas A&M University.

Yi received her J.D. from University of California Hastings College of Law, where she was the recipient of Witkin and Cali Excellence Awards in “Law and Bioscience Seminar” and “Bioentrepreneurship Clinic”. In the Clinic, Yi worked with partners at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, Morrison & Foerster LLP and DLA Piper LLP to conduct freedom-to-operate analyses for startup companies in the Bay Area. She was also a staff editor of Hastings Science & Technology Law Journal.

Yi received a B.S. in Optical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, graduating the first in the class. She also received a M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Optical Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. As a result of her doctoral work, Yi is the inventor of one patent and the author of several scientific publications.

Yi is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
