About Melissa
Biography
With more than a decade of immigration law experience, Melissa Jaffar collaborates with executives and legal and human resources personnel to address nonimmigrant and immigrant business immigration issues. Melissa has worked with startups, emerging companies, mid-sized and Fortune 500 corporations in a variety of industries including computer, software technology, biotechnology, electronics, pharmaceutical, and banking/financial services.
Melissa also advises clients on a wide variety of family immigration matters including family-based adjustment of status, naturalization, specialized citizenship issues, consular process, conditional residence, humanitarian parole, VAWA, asylum, waivers, fiance visas, and visas for victims of crimes. Melissa also has extensive experience with detention and removal matters before the immigration court (EOIR) and Board of Immigration Appeals.
Melissa has practiced business immigration law at some of the nation’s premier immigration law firms in San Francisco including a multi-practice firm, a mid-sized firm and a global full service immigration firm. She practiced family immigration law with mid-sized and boutique firms in Dallas and Houston. She clerked with the Chief Counsel of Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Dallas during law school. She received her law degree from Texas A&M University School of Law, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University. Melissa is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and is fluent in Spanish.
