My guess is that your employer is a private company. And if they want, they can. I don't see anything stopping them if this is part of their policy.

I'm not from your state, but generally they just take the ID and be done with it. I doubt they would use their resources. But who knows.
I think it's allowed if there is a past relationship.
There is no reason I can think of that the DMV will notify your employer.
