Excellent lawyer

I had a dispute that was very upsetting. I was so mad I really could not think clearly. He is an excellent attorney, calm, incisive and practical. I wish all my professional experiences were this good!

Charged for Work He Didn't Perform

I retained Mr. Devlin for my case nearly two weeks ago and ended up terminating representation just shy of the second week. When I first spoke to Mr. Devlin, he seemed to have some good ideas about how to resolve my legal matter. I told him my three goals and he excitedly agreed to reach all three go...als for me within my pressing court deadline. I paid the $15K retainer, fully expecting amazing legal services. After a week, something felt off to me. I hadn’t received any emails from Mr. Devlin, and I had a looming deadline. I called Mr. Devlin and when we spoke, he seemed to express little interest in my case and hadn’t performed any work on my case. I had already paid the $15,000 retainer by this point. After that conversation with Mr. Devlin, the next few days became a series of me asking questions about his progress and basically “babysitting” him to see what work he had completed for me that day. The final straw for me was when Mr. Devlin said that his firm couldn’t actually reach one of the big goals that I had set, which was the reason I had decided to retain him in the first place. Mr. Devlin should have vocalized that to me before I paid him $15,000, not two weeks after. When I terminated representation, Mr. Devlin didn’t even ask why and charged me $3,442.50, though he initially stated that I owed him $1,890. He also told me that he had been generous in billing me because he didn't charge me for three hours worth of work he had done. I still have no idea what work he did on my case because I certainly didn’t see any. When I thoroughly questioned him about the breakdown of my bill and asked for him to send the $3,442.50 worth of work product and research he and his partners claimed to have completed, he had nothing to send or show me. This was a very stressful experience and I truly believe that had I not been diligent or trusted my gut instinct, Mr. Devlin would have used up the entire $15,000 retainer without doing the proper work on my case. The saddest part of this whole situation is that my legal matter revolves around sexual abuse that I experienced, and I trusted Mr. Devlin and thought he was going to help me. However, I now believe that Mr. Devlin took advantage of my vulnerability and treated my legal matter as a moneymaking opportunity. When I told Mr. Devlin how I felt, he didn’t care. I did ask other attorneys about what Mr. Devlin did, and they confirmed that my bill was unfair.
