Biography
After graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pennsylvania, I received my juris doctor from Boalt Hall School of Law, at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1984. I served for two years as a legal intern at the Alameda County Public Defender, three and one-half years as a Los Angeles County Public Defender, and four years as a San Francisco County Public Defender. In 1992, I started my solo practice, and have been at my current location in the historic Flood Building in Uniion Square, San Francisco since 1997.
My wife of 28 years, Katherine Thomson, is also a graduate of Boalt Hallis is a labor and employment arbitrator/ mediator/ attorney. We have two daughters. Isabel is a professional modern dancer based in New York, and Caroline is a student at Oberlin College.
My work focus is the zealous defense of those accused of serious crimes as adults and juveniles. My litigation experience is extensive, and has resulted in dozens of aquittals and dismissals in the most serious cases.
