Divorce case

Mr. Gray was my divorce lawyer. I found him to be more sympathetic to my husband, whom he had never met and was not representing, than he was to me. He misrepresented the legal process and filed court papers without consulting me. Then he sent a letter to my husband without showing it to me first ...in which he asked my husband to call him for the terms of a settlement if he did not want to go to court. I found this totally unethical. This was not what he and I had discussed and Mr. Gray was my attorney, not my husband's attorney. My husband was the defendant in this case. This was a divorce with an emergency support order and past domestic violence charges. When I tried to fire him, he kept insisting he wanted my husband served at work! I had chosen to give my husband the respect and privacy of mailing him the papers. Mr. Gray kept insisting I serve my husband with a process server at his work place, and this is after he wrote my husband the letter in which he asked him for a phone call to discuss settlement if he didn't wish to end up in court. I eventually fired him, after paying him over $2000 for nothing. I found him very uncaring and legally incompetent in family law.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
