Gregory Wallace Herring

Greg Herring is certified as a Family Law Specialist by the Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (;) and of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers ().

He has the highest possible rating, “AV” Preeminent, from Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Ratings. He has been annually listed as a “Superlawyer” since 2007 (in the “top 100” lawyers overall in 2007) and one of “Southern California’s Best Lawyers” since 2008.

Greg founded Herring Law Group to better focus his practice and serve his clients.  Good communications are paramount, clients are included throughout the development of their cases. If a matter might require litigation, Greg is a courtroom force. On the other hand, fair settlements are always encouraged; those are achieved through strength, smarts and preparation.

Herring Law Group regularly handles cases in Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles Counties, and beyond.

With his business litigation background in state, federal, bankruptcy and appellate courts, Greg routinely handles complex business, property and income issues in the family law environment.  Cases may involve business interests, entertainment/intellectual property rights, professional goodwill, celebrity/athlete multi-branding, “extraordinary high earner” child support, “marital standard of living” spousal support, separate property tracings and community property characterization and valuation.

They may also include a full range of other family law challenges, custody, parenting and domestic violence among them. Complications in those matters often involve mental health issues, personality disorders and substance abuse, so Greg remains updated on the latest thinking and approaches.

Greg regularly writes about family law and teaches it across the state. He routinely serves on family law panels with various experts, judges and commissioners. He has also been retained as an expert in multiple family law professional standards cases in different counties.

Out of the office and courtroom, Greg is a family man with outdoor interests that include beekeeping, fly fishing and surfing. He is the proprietor of Herring BeerFarm, where he grows hops and brews a variety of ales. Stories about his work/life balance have been featured in the Los Angeles Times and Coastal Livingmagazine.
