We obtained this result for the client over the District Attorney's ... objection. I prepared a sophisticated motion packet which included information on the client's life history, charitable activities, performance on probation, and future goals. After some debate we walked out of court victorious.

While still serving as a prosecutor in the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, I uncovered evidence that an innocent man was convicted of murder in neighboring Santa Barbara County. Efren Cruz ... was serving 41-years-to-life for a gang-related murder that he did not commit. My superiors authorized me to investigate the case. We obtained recordings and other evidence from the true killer which proved that Efren Cruz was an innocent man. Efren Cruz was defended by Philip Dunn and Kevin Denoce in the Santa Barbara Superior Court. The attorneys took our investigation and filed a successful habeas petition which ultimately led to Efren Cruz being freed from prison after serving four years in Pelican Bay. I worked closely with the defense team and testified on Cruz's behalf to secure his release from custody. My original instincts that Efren Cruz was the victim of flawed eyewitness identification evidence were right. Today, I use the same experience to identify flaws in the prosecutor's case and aggressively defend my clients in court.
