That is way too much money for $3.98 in damages. Sounds like it could be extortion to me.

Also check the docket to see if there has been a stipulation to extend the deadline as that it quite common as well.

As long as you don't co-sign, you shouldn't have a problem. Most student loans are not going to be asking for you to co-sign anyway.

Generally, those motions in limine are granted w/o prejudice to allow it to be readdressed later if there is a finding of punitive damages...
