You can almost always work out a better resolution to a case by entering into a deal with the DA's office. After trial you have much less control...

Are you entitled to an appointed private investigator through the courts once, deemed as not being able to afford counsel?

Yes. Your attorney can apply for authorization for funds to hire a private investigator. This is covered under the criminal justice act.

You need to contact the local district attorney's office to find out what the statute of limitaions is for this crime in your state.

If there is a felony warrant for you you will be arrested if you turn yourself in. However, when you see the judge immediately after being arrested...
