Months of Delay After the Settlement Was Already Reached

My experience with Tatiana Doran, who represented my former spouse in my California divorce, was extraordinarily frustrating and unnecessarily expensive. The substantive settlement was reached and memorialized in a signed Deal Memo in April 2026. What should have been the relatively straightforwar...d process of converting that agreement into a final stipulated judgment then dragged on for months. During that period, there were repeated delays in returning revisions, long gaps in communication, last-minute issues, and substantial attention devoted to matters that, in my view, had little or nothing to do with actually getting a no-fault California divorce finalized. My attorney repeatedly followed up, requested comments, attempted to schedule calls, and tried to move the judgment forward. Even after the major financial terms were settled, the case continued generating attorney time and fees over wording and collateral issues that should not have required months to resolve. In my view, the amount of attorney activity generated after the settlement bore little relationship to the number of genuinely unresolved issues. What I found particularly troubling was the lack of urgency. A stipulated judgment draft was circulating in the spring, yet the final judgment was not executed and submitted until August. By that point, nearly all of the substantive issues had already been resolved for months. By the end, it was difficult to escape the impression that every additional delay created more billable work while doing very little to move the case toward completion. California is a no-fault divorce state. Yet far too much energy seemed to go toward narratives, accusations, and peripheral issues rather than simply documenting the agreement the parties had already reached. In my experience, the process felt less focused on efficiently implementing an agreed settlement and more focused on prolonged back-and-forth that created cost without meaningful benefit. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this attorney to ask very specific questions about how efficiently their case will be handled, how quickly agreed settlements are reduced to judgment, how often they should expect substantive communication, and how unnecessary attorney fees will be avoided. I cannot speak for every client or every case. I can only speak to my experience from the other side of this one, and it was a months-long lesson in how expensive delay can become.
