Patrick Joseph Hennessey Jr

"Give me liberty, or give me death!" is a quotation attributed to Patrick Henry from a speech he made to the Virginia Convention in 1775, at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia, he is credited with having swung the balance in convincing the Virginia House of Burgesses to pass a resolution deliver...ing the Virginia troops to the Revolutionary War. Among the delegates to the convention were future U.S. Presidents Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ In 2011 I'd been falsely accused of a violent felony, faced 15 years in San Quentin or Pelican Bay and fought the charges all the way to trial. Not guilty. I was one of only 33 acquitted by jury verdict of nearly 17,000 accused of a violent felony. Thus when the jury convicted me on a misdemeanor because the judge would't give them the right instructions on self-defense I KNEW I had to appeal. Unfortunately the attorney I was referred to failed to perform and I wound up being sentenced to 120 days custody. Falsely accused and wrongfully convicted, I never gave up. Once I was released, I worked tirelessly to get my appeal BACK on track and by divine Providence was referred to Mr. Hennessey. He listened very closely to my argument (which that I'd been denied due process of law) and worked tirelessly to carefully evaluate the transcript (something my other lawyer didn't do). He quickly found the testimony I'd known was there all along, testimony pointing to my affirmative right to self-defense. He then drafted an extraordinary Appellant's Opening Brief (AOB), followed by a Appellant's Reply Brief (ARB) - two greatly detailed, very compelling and well annotated appellate documents. After waiting nearly a year since the process first began, the Fourth District Court of Appeals REVERSED my misdemeanor conviction, paving the way for me to clear my name. Had I had the benefit of Mr. Hennessey's counsel FROM THE BEGINNING its highly likely I NEVER would have gone to custody in the first place. I am deeply in Mr. Hennessey's debt; he's a true 'Patrick Henry' lawyer!
