If you can't work it out with them then you're only choice is to sue. A demand letter might be enough so it might be worth the investment.

Without more it is difficult to know. If it was a class action against the finance company then likely it would only be related to the financing....

Well until you can figure out who took it then you really can't do much. With the elderly it is common the caregiver steals from them.
