Very competent

Mary helped us with a legal issue recently. She knew exactly what the judge needed to see, based on years of experience as a public defender. I highly recommend her.

Run...Run as fast as you can

Complete failure to prepare for a case. I had to research and provide documentation that she had in her briefcase on the court dates but had not reviewed. Almost cost 4 years in custody due to her malpractice. Sentence down to less than a year when documents were shown to the judge that she had in he...r briefcase on the day of the court date. I could write for about an hour but the memories I'm trying to erase. I believe she is currenty being investigated by her superiors.

In- effective counsel

Ms. Gaines fails to review cases in a timely manner, therefore diminishing her ability to effectively defend a defendant. This from my own experience. She pushes you to take a deal by stating the DA's deal is off the table if I went to prelim and stated I would get 3-5 yrs when the DA was offering p...robation. She also denied my request to show her the various amounts of evidence that I had. I requested 3 marzden motions and was denied. This was Nov. 2007 April 2009 My husband has a case that was to go to prelim today w/ Ms Gaines. She only noticed yesterday that she had represented me. Our last name is [name deleted]. Our names are not easily forgettable. She had photos of me and all pertinent information. But only discovered that one day before his prelim? Thus proving my point of ineffective counsel. She should of discovered this well before the day of his prelim. Now my husband waits another month because Gaines has once again proven to be in effective counsel. How many more are there?
