Michael Dershowitz

I am an expert in advertising law, having successfully prosecuted a large number of false and misleading advertising cases involving leading manufacturers, retailers, ad agencies, and endorsers in such product areas as energy, the environment, oil and gasoline, drugs and cosmetics, and high tech products.  (Some of the companies prosecuted include Sears Roebuck, Hertz, Mr. Coffee, ADM, Exxon, Amoco, Home Depot.)  As lead attorney for the FTC's "Green Team," I helped draft the FTC's "Guidelines for Environmental Advertising, and brought over 30 enforcement cases involving misleading claims.  During my career, I also investigated antitrust violations and dealt with franchise issues, sweepstakes, and consumer rebates.  I presented at conferences and other public forums as FTC's representative.  I supervised attorneys, paralegals and administrative staff. 

Since retiring, I have been active in the private sector, serving for three years as the Chief Compliance Officer for a national, dietary supplement manufacturer.  I oversaw FTC and FDA compliance obligations, and helped manage the company, restructuring, seeking capital financing, and dealing with distributors and vendors.  I have also assisted start-up companies in the mortgage brokerage business, retail food distribution, and Internet security.  In addition, I consult on FTC and FDA matters with major investment companies.  I am a Board Member of the La Jolla Bar Association and La Jolla Sunrise Rotary Club.
