Rebecca L. Ocain obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1998 from Siena College in Loudonville, NY, where she majored in Political Science. As she already planned on practicing criminal law, she also took and excelled in several law courses. While at Siena College, she was a law clerk for The Honorable Patrick J. McGrath of the New York Supreme Court.
Ms. Ocain obtained her Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law in 2001. While in law school, she took numerous courses in trial practice and the rules of evidence. Throughout her time at California Western School she also participated in several criminal law internships. She was an intern for the "DNA Project" at the San Diego District Attorney’s Office. As a part of that project, she reviewed cases of defendants prosecuted in 1992 or earlier. These thorough examinations focused on whether, in each case, biological evidence still existed, whether the defendant consistently maintained his or her innocence based upon mistaken or wrongful identification, and whether current DNA technology could provide exonerating evidence. If appropriate, cases were passed along for further review. She also participated in an internship with the San Diego City Attorney where she gained courtroom experience even before becoming an attorney.
After passing the California State Bar Exam in 2001, Ms. Ocain became a San Diego Deputy City Attorney. It was here that she handled hundreds of misdemeanor cases including DUIs, driving on a suspended license, domestic violence, drug offenses, theft, prostitution, assault, and weapons offenses. After gaining extensive misdemeanor trial experience, Ms. Ocain moved on to the San Diego District Attorney’s Office. As a Deputy District Attorney for over ten years she handled a wide variety of felonies including homicide, child abuse, child molest, domestic violence, assault, weapons offenses, burglary, auto theft, attempted murder, and drug offenses. She gained specialized knowledge and experience in computer and technology related crimes, as a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for over five years.
In her fourteen years of experience, Rebecca L. Ocain has tried over fifty jury trials ranging from DUI to Homicide. She has dealt with almost every type of criminal case at one point or another, as well as a wide spectrum of varied and vexing legal issues. Her knowledge and experience is what you want on your side.
