OUTCOME: complete victory, visits with client restored

OUTCOME: Complete victory, missing son reunited with mother
I represented a Wife living in Harlem with her two children, suffering beatings from her Husband. After complaining about her treatment, he sent the son to live with his paternal grandparents in Guine ... a, west Africa. In response, the Wife sought to compel the boy's return in Family Court, New York County. I drafted the necessary paperwork (Writ of Habeas Corpus, Affidavit, Affirmation). I managed the trial which included experts on west African culture and US immigration law. My client was the star performer, even with her testifying in French. She was thoroughly prepared and knocked the ball out of the park. The judge signed the Writ and it became a simple matter of enforcement. Several trips to the Father's home with police were required, but he eventually brought the boy back who was tearfully reunited with his mother late one Sunday night.
