Ashley D. Williams

Ashley Williams was my court appointed attorney in my DCFS Dependency case in which I fled from a domestic violence situation to my own home state, and DCFS was helping me keep myself and my children safe. Ashley Williams was extremely unhelpful, didn't know anything about UCCJEA, and was just plain ...rude. She treated me as though I was a waste of her time. Any time I had a question, she would cut me off and literally tell me to "shut up." At one point she even did this while I was crying (because I learned we had to go back to my children's home state, and I was terrified of the idea of my abuser finding us) and she told me to "shut up and don't start crying now" because she "didn't have time and needed to quickly explain everything." I asked her to please speak with DCFS in my children's home state because I felt they could help my case and she refused, saying she "realistically didn't have time to talk to any extra people because she already has a heavy caseload." I very firmly believe had she actually done her job and been a dignified attorney, we would not have had to return to a very dangerous situation. If her caseload is so big that she can not only not do her job properly, but also cannot conduct herself with integrity and at the very least, empathy, then quite frankly she is in the wrong profession.
