John Ayala received his B.A. degree at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, California, and his J.D. degree at Boston University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Ayala represents individuals in immigration matters before Immigration Courts, Board of Immigration Appeals, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Southern and Central U.S. District Courts in California.
Mr. Ayala has been the attorney in two published Ninth Circuit precedent cases, Sanchez-Cruz v. INS, 255 F.3d 775 (9th Cir. 2001) (an alien can claim an Immigration Judge’s bias and prejudice as a colorable due process violation); Hernandez de Anderson v. Gonzales, 497 F.3d 927 (9th Cir. 2007) (an individual who reasonably relied on eligibility and existing defensive application to stop deportation when applying for naturalization, remained eligible for defense from deportation upon denial of naturalization despite the defense application’s subsequent repeal).
Mr. Ayala was the 2007-2008 Chair of the Southern California Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association and helped organize the Southern California Raid Response Network to provide immediate aid to victims of mass employment raids. Mr. Ayala was a member of the National AILA/Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) Liaison Committee from 2008-2010 working with the EOIR to implement ideas and solutions to improve procedures before immigration courts throughout the United States and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Mr. Ayala has been rated a “Super Lawyer” by superlawyers.com from 2005-2016.
