I may not be enough proof for a conviction but maybe for a letter in the mail demanding restitution or threatening prosecution.

In California it will show up as dismissed. It is not completely erased.

You have to be served for it to be effective. In order to extend it, they would have to give you notice. Have a local attorney verify it.
