I hired Mr Sperling as a self-proclaimed aggressive litigator to set safe custody boundaries in a matter involving documented domestic violence, child abuse and substance abuse. That one of his first consult questions was about ex's $$ resources should have been a warning but I was focused on s...ecuring safety for my children. His representation consisted of dramatic posturing and expensive weekly 'ex parte' hearings that accomplished nothing. The writing and client contact was assigned to his overburdened legal assistant. The three times he returned my calls, his demeanor was dismissive and it was evident they were not taking place in a professional setting. He showed up to court unfocused, clearly not even having read what was in the documents produced by his office, and opposing counsel capitalized. Five weeks into representation, at 4:30 p.m. the day before the 8 a.m. trial that should have secured our safety, reasonable child support, and full custody, he informed me the 15k retainer was gone (that's $3,000/ week he spent with no benefit) and demanded another $15k to show up for the trial the next morning. The result was devastating, requiring significant legal effort by others to rectify, but most heartbreaking is the additional physical and emotional damage to the children that therapeutic support can't undo.
