The discipline referred to above stems from a case that is more than 10 years old. The Court of Appeal disagreed with my belief that I had an ethical obligation not to reveal attorney-client privileged information to the court. I continued with an appeal which the Court believed was rendered moot. I did so in an attempt to protect the interests of my clients. There was ample legal precedent to support my beliefs. The Court of Appeal referred the matter to the State Bar of California for discipline. My discipline was served and I have been practicing law in California for years without incident.
My client reviews, peer reviews and my experience speak for themselves.

Richard Marcus is the best attorney I could have hoped for
Richard Marcus is the best attorney I could have hoped for — calm yet aggressive, principled and effective. He’s seen me through some of my darkest emotional lows in a long divorce and helped me to see my situation realistically and honestly. All those qualities blended with his extraordinary underst...
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Richard Marcus for many years. We used to share office space together and I keep in touch with him regularly and we worked on several cases together. He is an excellent litigator who really cares about all of his clients. He is bright, articulate and always puts his clients first. He really enjoys what he does and it shows. I would highly recommend to him to anyone looking for a really good attorney."
"I have worked with Rich Marcus on several matters over about 9 years. Rich has always spotted important issues that others could easily have overlooked. He either knows the law when he gives advice or he makes sure to do his research so that he can give the proper advice. He is efficient, reasonably priced and a tough negotiator. Unlike a lot of litigators, Rich has substantial trial experience and Appellate experience."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Richard Marcus for 15 years and have referred several clients to him with business and contract disputes. All of the clients I have referred to him have been very satisfied with his services and his fees. He is extremely competent in several areas of law (business, family law, appeals, litigation) which is a rare find in today's legal world where most of us, including myself, have niche practices. I will continue to refer clients to Richard Marcus because he is a competent and capable attorney who is a stong client advocate in and out of the courtroom."
