A passionate advocate, a friend, and a fighter

Chris is there for his clients any time any day. He will know your case like the back of his hand and he will guide you through the process of family law. I highly recommend you take a consultation with him and see for yourself. Some judges can go rogue and that has nothing to do with the attorney y...ou hire. Chris will make sure you are satisfied with your case and will make sure you know that you’re not going through it alone! As a family man himself, he will fight for yours! His clients are like family to him and I appreciate that and his amazing sense of humor when it was needed.

Horrible experience. Unprepared and made bad decision after bad decision

Overall HORRIBLE experience. Chris' lack of preparedness last summer for my family law case and the overall bad legal advice he provided was atrocious. Having dealt with many family lawyers in the past 4 years, Chris' law firm has been one of the worst I've dealt with. He was recommended by a lawyer ...friend and trusted he would perform. Some examples of Chris' and his associate's incompetence were..... Blair Castellanos(Associate Lawyer): Billed me over $1,800 to generate an incoherent Response using outdated information. She blamed her coworkers for not providing her with the updated info and was overall rude. I had to rewrite my entire Response and spent 40+ hours in 4-days highlighting emails and generating exhibits into a single PDF for her to print. This was a complete waste since Blair DID NOT proofread the printout, which was missing the hundreds of highlights and page numbering I made to assist the judge in navigating my Response & Exhibits (+100pages) before she faxed it to the court. Blair incompetence with manipulating PDF files and using iCloud was dumbfounding. Danny Martinez(Associate Lawyer): In addition to an incoherent cut-and-paste RFO Declaration Danny generated that he billed me thousands for, Danny asked me to fill out a Financial disclosure PDF (locked) which was prefilled with the law firm's administrative information. When I asked Danny for the unlocked PDF with the prefilled info, he directed me to the CA Court Website to download the form myself. All the work Danny did was a waste and my new lawyer had to redo everything. Chris Hoglin: Even though Chris gave me his cellphone #, he was always too busy to respond to text/call/email me back. Getting ahold of him for any kind of response took multiple follow-up emails/calls. He went into court the first day completely unprepared since he assumed we could request another judge. Chris was wrong and he would have known this if he did his research. Chris recommended I delayed submitting my RFO in April '21 and when later asked by the Judge in August "Why I haven't submitted an RFO"....Chris' response to the Judge was "That was the legal advice I was given". ?!?!. Chris' numerous bad decisions, lack of preparedness in court, and overconfidence cost me tens of thousands of dollars and, most importantly, I lost precious time with my daughter. Chris came off as cocky in the courtroom and was obvious he didn't know my case well. When I fired him in Sept 2019, his handover to my new lawyer was complete garbage and the case file he provided was missing some substantial info. I would NOT recommend his law firm unless you just don't feel like filing the paperwork yourself. Having Chris represent me in court last year was one of the most stressful events in my life.....and I've served 18 years as an Army Officer and deployed 4 times to combat flying armed reconnaissance helicopters and airplanes.

Sloppy, missed deadline, submitted filings admissible due court guidelines

I did extensive research looking for an attorney after my ex served me with joint custody/legal papers after having disappeared from my sons life and mine a year prior. I did extensive research, I was interested in him due to his prolific history and litigation rate working as a Criminal Defense At...torney, Not privy to the complexities of law, I retained him and trusted him to represent the interests we agreed unto contractually in our retainer agreement, custody/visitation/child support/attorney fees. I was sent blank forms and told to fill out and return, I did so, assuming they would be revised before filing, they were not. Child support/Attorney fees were never even requested yet I was charged for every document he requested to produce to accompany the order. Every single one of my filings by Hoglin were replete errors with legal contradictions He filed an inadmissible 56 page declaration- anything over 10 pages is inadmissible so the judge never even read or saw the most important points of my case. Lastly- he failed to meet the most important deadline of my case: to file my modifications to the conciliation agreement reached in mediation. As a result, he charged me 1,225 to appear in court and request the modifications to the judge which would have been avoided if my modifications were filed at the deadline. Since my declaration was inadmissible the orders he requested were denied and my son began weekly visits with his father he barley knew and returned home with visible signs of neglect and abuse. Fortunately, I now have sole legal/physical but the road to get here was not easy and something I would never wish upon any mother - This isn't to say my experience is universal to all however this is my experience with this firm and because of that its my duty to share on these important platforms

Relationship: Worked for lawyer

"Christopher L. Hoglin is an exceptionally well respected attorney in the Los Angeles Family Law community. He can regularly be seen in court representing clients on a variety of family law related issues. He understands the legal climate and the types of issues Judge's look at to determine the outcome of their case. I have worked with Chris on many cases and have always felt that he knows what he is doing and understands his clients cases without having to review notes or ask his client's questions. He puts in the extra effort that it takes that separates the average from the exceptional. He is an exceptional family law attorney and his client's are lucky to have him and his staff on their side."

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"Chris is a rare attorney these days; he works unbelievably hard for his clients, doesn't miss a single detail, and consistently gets results. When family law issues materialize in my law practice, I trust no one other than Chris to guide me through the Family Code. Every time, he is right on the money. Chris is always right because he has taken the time (thousands of hours), unlike most, to master his area of law, no matter how minute. I would hire Chris personally; that is how much I trust his skill set. He also happens to be an amazing husband and father. I unequivocally endorse Chris."

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
