Depends on the nature of the financial aid. Your sponsor is only responsible if you rely on certain public means-tested benefits.
Does H1B Visa restricts your status as an employee tied to a particular company or can I work as a independent real estate agent

H-1B is employer specific. You may only work for the petitioning employer.

If the L-2 has a USCIS work permit, she is authorized to work. The rest is a matter of employment law.
