Residence generally means last place of habitual abode or permanent home. Most students are temporarily residing wherever they attend school.

I-140 approved with priority date of Dec 2010, Indian National EB2 , left USA in 2012, H1b visa expired

The I-140 is not transferable to a new employer. You would need a new I-140 to immigrate or adjust status.
