Very Serious Felony Residential Burglary Charges Significantly Reduced - Dr. Unger is one AMAZING Defense Lawyer Saved My Life

Hello, Back in early 2019 I was arrested and charged with 7 counts of 1st-degree (felony) residential burglary. The rather generic (uncaring) public defender was very eager to offer me a paper to sign, stating I would go to prison for 14 years due to the severity of the crime... He, like 99% of a...ll public defenders, was not willing to fight for me and represent me accurately in this case. In fact, the public defender laughed in my face when I started to explain the circumstances of the situation. I got addicted to opioid pain medication when I needed to have my wisdom teeth pulled... and like always... the addiction progressively got worse... to the point where I started mixing numerous prescription medications, blacking out, and even having a couple of accidental overdoses. Xanax became my drug of choice and I was truly powerless over my addiction. All of this eventually led to the crime I committed... I was completely blacked out on Xanax and did not recall anything I did whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I woke up in jail not knowing what happened... the worst feeling of my life. This was my very first offense, I grew up in a great household with a great family, have always worked and paid my taxes, I was a college student with a good head on my shoulders... I was/am pretty much a normal person just like anybody you know. This incident truly was a 1-off. A complete anomaly. Out-of-character to the fullest. Now, I don't say this to absolve myself of responsibility for my actions. Although, to this day, I still don't remember everything that has happened that night (I do remember some of it now)... I truly feel very bad about the people I affected. I always think about how I would feel if my personal belongings were stolen from me and I definitely would not like it one bit. I understood the severity of what I did and knew that I needed to be held responsible for my actions but 14 years was not a reasonable punishment for what I did considering all the circumstances. I was not willing to sign away my life without trying to find someone that would represent me fairly... so I went lawyer hunting. My family spoke to NUMEROUS lawyers trying to find someone that was understanding of the situation and willing to truly fight for a punishment that was more reasonable considering all of the circumstances. After several lawyers, we finally came across Dr. Unger! Dr. Charles/Charlie really got to know my family and me personally to get a sense of the situation before he offered to take on my case... Once he felt that my situation a unique one (and he believed me) he agreed to represent me in court. He immediately got to work going above and beyond to secure all the necessary information, evaluations, hospital records, etc.... and started forming a case. Dr. Unger was truly professional in all of his efforts but the MOST IMPORTANT & INFLUENTIAL ASPECT of Dr. Unger was his vast network of personal relationships that he has with numerous courtrooms. He is very well known and well respected in the courtroom. I truly believe that without Dr. Unger I would still be sitting in prison today. I'm truly very sorry to the people I affected. I'm very happy that everyone got all of their items back and that nobody was hurt. I wish I could take back what I did... Overall, Dr. Unger successfully negotiated the prosecution to drop all of the charges (except 1 charge of felony residential burglary), 365 days in county jail, and 5 years of probation. I'm very blessed to have been represented by Dr. Unger. He truly was able to save my life. I'm now completely sober, married to my beautiful wife, and living a normal life. I'm so lucky to not be sitting behind bars... THANKS, DR. UNGER!

Very grateful for Charlie

This was my very first arrest and DUI charge. It is a painful and emotionally draining thing to go through. Charlie was extremely knowledgeable, supportive, caring and most of all trustworthy. He was able to bring down my DUI to a lesser offense. I only had to appear in court once which was very he...lpful due to my work and school schedule. Charlie was always available via phone call or email. He never once kept me waiting. I would highly recommend hiring Charlie.

a true professional criminal lawyer

Charlie made us feel important and comfortable. He treated us with respect. He was always available and approachable. He answered questions and provided feedback in a timely manner. He told us exactly what was happening in the case in order for us not to have unrealistic expectations. He knew how... to listen and used insights from us. He clearly demonstrated knowledge and experience.

YOU WILL REGRET CHARIE'S REPRESENTATION

I was arrested for a first time DUI with no prior convictions or arrests on my record. After delaying my court day for over a year, Charlie got my conviction slightly reduced than a full-blown DUI (which didn't make a difference since both are misdemeanors) Charlie charged me over $7,000 (which came... out of my retirement) not including the surprise fees: 1) $1,000 for a specialist breath analyzer (showed up 45 minutes late to an administrative hearing, and 2) numerous fees for copies, messenger service, billing, etc. When I would call Charlie to follow up on my case--he didn't remember me or my name (he would ask who are you and even after stating my name would ask me to explain)---he often got angry that I called and would yell and hang up the phone. Charlie tried to get more money out of me by referring me to one of his friends for therapy--I was a total emotional wreck for many years after the arrest, not to mention it was hard to find employment. Ask to see Charlie's office before you hire him---you will know exactly what you are getting when you see his office---an absolutely disaster with piles of paper and crap strewn about from wall to wall--beyond sanity, beyond packrat conditions. Charlie wants your $$$ and does not care bout your fate--this guy isn't tracking on cases--you will know this once you see his office. Stay away from this person who seems understanding but is really a nasty greedy troll. I lived for years (and really the impact is for life) with the impact of what many other attorneys told me later would have been dismissed if Charlie had paid attention to my case--as I didn't go to court until over a year after arrest based on Charlie's worthless advice--it only delayed conviction and time on my record. You will not get the value for what you pay from this guy.

It is discouraging when you go above and beyond to help a person with obvious emotional issues but no matter how far you go, the individual is still not satisfied. Fortunately this is extremely rare which is why I am clear on who anonymous is, even though this arrest occurred many years ago. There are so many misstatements I would not know where to begin taking them all apart. As was mentioned I did get the case reduced. This was a minor miracle based on the fact pattern. And I did refer the individual for counseling because even though the client was very difficult to deal with, I still wanted to get the client help. It is important to me to continue to do great work and care for people in a way that I know is right, even though there will be people who do not appreciate the effort and extra work that I put in on their behalf. Thanks, Charlie

Highly Recommended Attorney At Law

5.0 Stars Posted by a very satisfied client June 20, 2016 I made a poor decision this past January by driving under the influence and was arrested. I nearly followed with a worse decision in not retaining an attorney. I researched the positives and negatives of getting a lawyer for your first ...DUI and made a decision that I didn’t want to make an expensive mistake into an even more expensive disaster after reading some of the reviews of clients and their warnings of some other DUI defense attorneys and their cases. Fortunately I listened to my insurance agent who repeatedly told me that he believed I was making a mistake by not seeking legal counsel. My wife and I happen to be friends with an attorney and his family who are friends of other attorneys who when we asked for help, highly recommended Charles “Charlie” Unger. My wife and I decided to retain his services after his free consultation. We both felt very comfortable speaking with him, he seemed very down to earth. He’s very knowledgeable with DUI cases and mentioned he has been successful in reducing DUI charges and has been involved in many high profile cases. He told me due to my lower BAC level and the other circumstances of my case a reduction would be probable and a further reduction in charges could be possible. Mr. Unger made it possible to obtain certain documents and records that allowed me to concentrate on work at a very troubling time in my life and I only needed to appear once in court. Long story short he knocked it out of the park! He did exactly what he said he was going to do for the retainer he originally charged. When renewing my insurance my insurance agent said “you don’t know how lucky you are and how much money on premiums you’re going to save”. This was only one of the many benefits these reductions helped in my case. Charlie Unger came highly recommended to us and I would highly recommend Mr. Unger and his partners to anyone looking for an attorney that will do what he says he’ll do.

"As a fellow colleague in the criminal and DUI defense area of law, I've known Charlie for about 15 years. I've seen his work and the outcomes he achieves for his clients. In fact, some of the most difficult cases I would refer to Charlie when I thought he would be a better fit for the client. He is a true warrior in the court room and a compassionate lawyer who goes above and beyond to help his clients. I have a lot of admiration and respect for this lawyer. A lot of his clients find him through word of mouth or a referral. He doesn't need to spend much time on social media because he's known in the field as being one of the top criminal and DUI defense lawyers in Los Angeles county and in the surrounding area!"

"Charlie is one of the best. If you are facing a prosecution for DUI, you won't find a better lawyer than Charlie Unger. Charlie is highly respected by other lawyers and he frequently lectures at seminars on DUI defense. I've learned a lot from him. Charlie is not only a great attorney. He is also a very down-to-earth, personable and likable guy who explains complex legal issues in a way that's easy to understand. Juries love him and prosecutors fear him. I endorse Charlie Unger wholeheartedly."
