David Duis Carico

For 36 years, David Carico has dedicated his practice to litigation and appellate law, and has developed the highly specialized skills necessary to successfully litigate cases and negotiate the intricacies of the Court of Appeal in California, the federal Circuit Courts, and the Supreme Court.  David Carico is certified by the State Bar of California as a specialist in appellate law. Appellate practitioners are required to meet a number of requirements in order to receive the State Bar certification. The lawyer must be substantially involved in the practice of appellate law, regularly attend continuing education classes in appellate law, and receive the support of peers and the judiciary in order to be certified by the State Bar as an appellate specialist.  David has argued on behalf of his clients in all districts and divisions of the California Court of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal.  Although his practice is focused on California, he has also acted as pro hac vice and advisory counsel in appeals in foreign jurisdictions.  David's philosophy as an appellate lawyer is to leave no stone unturned for the client.  He has represented clients in criminal, civil, and administrative appeals and writs.  He was the first attorney certified as an appellate specialist in Monterey County, California.  He was featured in a front page article of the Los Angeles Daily Journal legal newspaper for his work obtaining the reversal of a conviction on behalf of a wrongfully accused deaf client.  In addition to his legal work, David has volunteered time assisting men in coping with the challenges of divorce, illness, and other life changing circumstances.  He has a regular meditation and somatic movement practice and a certification in social ministry.
