I did not get a letter for my loan being sold, was I supposed to get documentation? Who is actually supposed to provide it?

The loan company should send you the letter, but if you send a letter to the loan company with a copy to the dealer certified, that may do.

Go down to the police station with proof of ownership and try to get it released. The fees you will have to suck up.

Sure he can, but it was just a police tactic. If you were a witness, a judge or district attorney may have thrown the case out.

Just go, waiting to be arrested, the judge will do much more if you are brought in by the police than if you man up.
