Excellent advice, reasonable cost - this is the attorney you want in your corner!

Running a small call center in California, I have been working with Kevin Lipeles and his team for over 3 years now. He has represented our company in numerous matters ranging from software copyright infringment/enforcement to stock buyback negotiations to everyday employment law. As an excellent neg...otiator, he has saved our company many times from making very costly mistakes. Being a business owner and not an attorney, most of the time I just need advice, and can handle the issues myself. Occasionally, full-on representation is required. Regardless of the depth or complexity of any issue at hand, I know that Kevin and his team are only a phone call away. If they are unavailable at the time, I can bet that I will get a callback as soon as they can. I have received email responses when they are out of the office in court, or a callback after hours on my cell if it is an urgent matter. Knowing that Kevin and his team have my back allows me to concentrate on running my business, without having to worry about defending myself against the latest frivolous legal shakedown that might come my way. I would recommend his office to everyone with no reservations about the quality of advice or representation.

Good all around business attorney

Kevin Lipeles has been my attorney for many years now. As the owner of high end jewelry company we see our fare share of legal issues. Kevin and his office make themselves available on short notice and really care about my issues. I have had Kevin handle everywhere from serious litigation to simple c...ontract review and I have always been very happy with the outcome. I give my highest recommendation to any small business owners that need an attorney.

Business Agreement Review

I asked Mr. Lipeles to review a business agreement. After several calls between Mr. Lipeles and myself, Mr. Lipeles agreed to meet and discuss the specifics of my agreement. During these initial phone calls, Mr. Lipeles indicated that he wanted a retainer for his services. He went on to say that i...f my situation became litigious, he and his staff would require a retainer to represent me. I explained to Mr. Lipeles that I only had a few questions that were basic in nature and a person with adequate professional experience in this field should be able to answer without the need of a retainer. I further explained to Mr. Lipeles that if the review and/or questions regarding the agreement became too numerous, that I would be happy to provide a retainer for his additional services. Mr. Lipeles stated that we would be able to discuss my questions and his fees would be for a flat rate ($250.00 per hour) or a fixed cost to review said agreement. Prior to our agreed upon meeting date and during the last of our initial phone calls, Mr. Lipeles requested that I prepare and e-mail my questions so that he could review and forward to the person that handles his business agreements, Mr. Joseph Adams. I arrived at Mr. Lipeles' office 20 minutes prior to our agreed upon time. When I walked in the office, I noticed an absence of a receptionist. After 10 minutes, a person (unknown and unidentified) peaked through the door and asked if they could assist me. I explained to this person that I was there for an appointment with Mr. Lipeles. I was told that Mr. Lipeles would be with me shortly. A few minutes later, I was told that Mr. Lipeles had an emergency and had to leave the office. I inquired why I was not informed of the cancelation and I was told, "I don't know." The person that greeted me also said that he would try to get in touch with Mr. Lipeles to determine his whereabouts and asked me to wait in the conference room. Once in the conference room, the person returned and said that he couldn’t locate Mr. Lipeles but would be more than happy to discuss my agreement. This person indicated that in order to answer my questions it would require a retainer and several meetings. I asked this person if he had a copy of my agreement and he replied, "no." When I asked how he could have arrived at this conclusion, he simply replied that he had seen the questions on Mr. Lipeles desk and formulated his opinion at that time. I inquired if I could speak to Mr. Adams, his business attorney and I was told that he didn't work in this office, but rather was in a satellite location and was unavailable. (A brief look at the California State Bar website indicates that Mr. Adams has his own practice and is not affiliated with Mr. Lipeles). Prior to leaving the office, I requested that Mr. Lipeles give me a call to discuss this situation. I left with no further dialog. Mr. Lipeles never returned my call, but instead chose to send an e-mail informing me that he had cancelled our meeting less than one hour prior to the arranged time. Since I was traveling from a long distance for our meeting with no access to a computer, I had no way of knowing that Mr. Lipeles had cancelled our meeting. In summary, it appears as though Mr. Lipeles is looking to secure retainers unnecessarily. In fact, Mr. Lipeles did not have an emergency as indicated, but simply became uninterested in my case and was too lethargic to call and cancel. Further, Mr. Lipeles advertises in-house staff for services, when in fact he simply contracts out cases and is essentially a middleman attempting to generate revenue from the review of cases that could be handled by an otherwise competent attorney. In my opinion this is a low budget operation with shallow depth and expertise; I would not recommend using his or his staff’s services.
