Feckless and unpastionate lawyer.

I was referred to Mr. Rodney Lee from an attorney who works in his firm. The referring attorney (K.S.) did a legal seminar about HR. K.S. turned over my case to Mr. Lee. He mentioned in passing that Mr. Lee was good at "settling cases." At the time, I didn't think that this was significant but it... turned out to foreshadow a big problem. Mr. Lee didn't do anything on the case. My company was sued by a disgruntled ex-employee. Mr. Lee was always on the defensive. He didn't interview witnesses, he didn't send discovery, and he didn't file any significant motions. I had to suggest to him that he review the employee's personnel file and do a background check. He eventually did this but only after I had to keep pushing him to do it. The bill that his firm charged me was high every month. A lot of time was spent correcting things that Mr. Lee wrote. I did receive some letters from Mr. Lee -- which were rife with spelling and grammatical errors. We had a "status conference". My Lee's oral presentation at the conference was feckless. He speaks in a monotone voice, without inflection, and without any passion. I was embarrassed for him. I don't have anything personal against Mr. Lee. He is a nice man and I am sure he is very bright. He also has great artwork on his office wall. But, he just didn't workout for me on the case. Out of the blue, I got a call from Mr. Lee. My heart stopped because I thought something went wrong in the lawsuit. Not so. Mr. Lee tried to "sell" me other legal work and asked if I could use legal services in other matters. It was almost like he was ordered to make the call from his supervisors. As the trial date neared, Mr. Lee pressured me to settle. The "settlement" was worse for my company than the demand that the ex-employee sent before I hired a lawyer. This is after I spent over $100k in legal fees. I decided to take the "settlement" because I feared Mr. Lee couldn't represent me well at trial. Mr. Lee, in my humble opinion, doesn't know how to defend a case. All he does is try to "settle" -- and he doesn't do a good job at that.
