Shortly thereafter, client was arrested for willful infliction of corporal injury on a cohabitant in ... violation of section 273.5(a) of the California Penal Code. A possible conviction would seriously put client's green card in jeopardy as a conviction resulting in the imposition of a term of imprisonment of 1 year would render client removable as an alien convicted of a “crime of violence” (aggravated felony offense). Through my office, the DA agreed to drop the charges once the client completed 52 spousal abuse courses. Client's green card is no longer in jeopardy.
